The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has named Diana Carey the new principal of Costa Mesa High School.

Carey, who is an assistant principal at Fountain Valley High School, is credited with helping to develop that school’s master schedule and curriculum, launching a digital high school program and overseeing Stanford 9 exams.

She replaces Andrew Hernandez, principal at Costa Mesa High for five years, who has been named principal at Tustin Unified’s Foothill High School.

Newport-Mesa is still in the process of filing other principal vacancies, district officials said. Although seven principals resigned from their posts in the district this year, most posts have been filled at least temporarily.
