Gas Line Rupture Shuts Half-Mile of Boulevard
Police shut down about a half-mile stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard most of Friday after workers broke a 1921 gas line that officials were not aware existed.
The much-traveled boulevard was closed between Artesia and Longfellow streets from about 3 a.m. It had yet to reopen by Friday evening, said Manhattan Police Sgt. Andy Harrod.
A construction company working on a state project broke the line, Harrod said. Gas company officials, called in to make the line safe, spent Friday installing valves on both sides of the break.
No one was evacuated from the area and the road was expected to be reopened by late Friday night, he said.
