Topping Is Transferring to Fullerton
Catcher Jenny Topping, who led the nation in home runs and runs batted in for the Washington softball team last season, is transferring to Cal State Fullerton, it was announced Monday.
Topping, who played at La Habra High, has signed a Fullerton grant-in-aid agreement, an athletic department spokesman said.
She has three seasons of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2001 season.
Topping, who earned All-American honors, hit 24 home runs and drove in 90 runs last season for a team that reached the Women’s College World Series. She also led the nation with a .960 slugging percentage and ranked fifth nationally with a .438 batting average.
Topping played eight games for Washington in 1999 before a knee injury ended her season. She was granted a medical redshirt year because of the injury.
“She’s the epitome of an impact player, plus she fills a need on our roster,” Titan Coach Michelle Gromacki said.
The Titans won the Big West Conference championship last season, finishing with a 45-15 record in Gromacki’s first season as coach.
