Meeting Set on Plan to Curb RV Parking

The Police Department is holding a public meeting tonight to discuss a possible daytime parking ban for RVs and other oversize vehicles.

In October, the City Council decided to postpone until January a decision on the parking ban, which had met with public opposition.

“What’s important is we have people with strong opinions and we want an opportunity for those to be heard,” said Lt. Quinn Fenwick.

The department distributed more than 600 notices on oversized vehicles and trailers parked on city streets to advertise the meeting and warn owners of the possible ordinance.

The ordinance would ban curbside parking between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The ban would include any vehicle--including trailers, RVs and boats--longer than 25 feet, exceeding 80 inches in width and taller than 82 inches.

Representatives of the Good Sam Club, a national organization of recreational vehicle enthusiasts, are also expected to attend.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at the Ventura Police Department, 1425 Dowell Drive.
