Connecticut Player Might Transfer

Ajou Deng, who escaped turmoil in his native Sudan and arrived at Connecticut three years ago as a heralded recruit, may have played his last game for the No. 15 Huskies.

The lanky 6-foot-10 forward was in street clothes and on the bench for Connecticut’s 71-69 victory over No. 5 Arizona on Saturday amid speculation he’s about to transfer. He has missed the last two practices and is averaging less than five points and five rebounds. Deng has played an average of about 14 minutes a game.

He wouldn’t comment on reports that he may transfer to intrastate rival Fairfield.

“I still consider myself part of the team,” Deng said after the game.

He met earlier this week with Coach Jim Calhoun to discuss his future. Calhoun has said that Deng has not played with much enthusiasm or aggression and has often been beaten by smaller opponents.
