Eteamz.com, the Los Angeles start-up that runs an online community for sports enthusiasts, is playing ball with Active.com.

The company will announce today that it has agreed to merge with Active.com in an $11.6-million stock deal. Eteamz.com’s approximately 20 employees will move to Active’s headquarters in La Jolla and join the 150 workers there.

Matt Landa, Active.com’s chief commerce officer, said Eteamz.com’s community of more than 150,000 amateur sports teams and 10,000 leagues will help Active promote its business of handling online registration for participatory sporting events, such as marathons. In addition to offering free Web sites for teams and leagues, Eteamz.com provides online coaching tips, message boards and listings of tournaments, camps and clinics.
