Fullerton police were trying to determine whether a transient hit by a train Sunday night was trying to commit suicide.

Phillip Thomas Seabon, 39, from Anaheim, was hit by a Santa Fe freight train near the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Valencia Drive, said Fullerton Police Sgt. John Petropulos.

After the incident was reported at 8:24 p.m., Seabon was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was treated for head trauma and was listed in guarded condition. Seabon was bleeding from the ears and could mumble but did not talk, Petropulos said.

Petropulos said as the train was traveling north, Seabon stepped onto the tracks. “We’re unsure if it was a suicide attempt or he was just trying to cross the tracks,” he said. “He was straddling the tracks and faced the train. As it approached, he turned sideways but made no attempt to get out of the way.”
