Favre Can Handle This Cold Fact

Brett Favre isn’t flawless in cold weather. But his record still is.

Flustered all day despite his favorite kind of frosty weather, Favre guided Green Bay 80 yards in six plays--throwing to Ahman Green for a decisive three-yard touchdown in the Packers’ 26-13 victory over Detroit on Sunday.

Favre improved to 21-0 at home in the regular season when the temperature is 34 or below. He did it despite completing only 15 of 36 passes for 208 yards with one interception in the end zone and a costly fumble.

“I couldn’t feel the ball,” Favre explained. “It felt like a balloon.”

Favre misfired most of the game until the Packers, who had settled for Ryan Longwell’s four field goals, found themselves clinging to a 12-10 lead after James Stewart’s one-yard touchdown dive with seven minutes left.

Favre then completed three passes for 77 yards, including a 45-yard play to Bill Schroeder that set up the short touchdown pass play to Green with 4:25 left.

“If you leave Favre on the field too long, something’s bound to happen,” Lion cornerback Terry Fair said. “And that’s what happened.”

Jason Hanson’s 36-yard field goal with 2:17 left made it 19-13, but the ensuing onside kick was knocked out of bounds by Schroeder. Trying just to run out the clock, Green then scampered through a hole for a 39-yard touchdown run with 1:54 left. He finished with 118 yards in 27 carries.

The Packers got back to .500 at 7-7 after squandering their previous three chances to do so, and kept their slim playoff hopes alive. The Lions (8-6) had five turnovers in losing their 10th consecutive game in Wisconsin.
