Chatsworth Rides Wind to Tie Hart

Winning has always come easily in City Section girls’ soccer for Chatsworth High.

However, the Chancellors want to prove they can beat Southern Section teams, too.

After being beaten, 3-0, by Harvard-Westlake a week ago, the Chancellors had one last shot to prove their point.

The Chancellors gained some respect with a 2-2 tie against Hart on a cold and windy Tuesday night in Chatsworth.

“The girls were motivated and inspired out there,” Chatsworth Coach Robert Hayes said. “We wanted to prove we belong in the same breath with a lot of the better, bigger known teams out there.

“I think the girls were embarrassed by the Harvard-Westlake game. They wanted to prove they were better. This proves the Harvard-Westlake game was a real fluke.”

Each team dominated when the wind was at its back.

The teams combined for 30 shots, many were wind-aided and came from long range.

The Chancellors (1-1-1) scored first when Moe Redlin knocked in a rebound of Jenna Fodor’s shot midway through the first half.

Hart (1-2-1) tied the score in the 48th minute when Sarah Dean scored from 35 yards.

After six of their 10 first-half shots sailed over the goal or went wide, the Chancellors kept the ball on the ground. With the wind in their face, the Chancellors regained the lead in the 50th minute on a goal by Tricia Arosemena.

“We kept the ball on the ground and didn’t play in the air,” said Redlin.

The Indians tied the score on a long-range shot by Ashley Lawler in the 75th minute.
