Simi Valley Wins Behind Bradshaw

Ryan Bradshaw said the three-pointer with the game on the line is the shot he dreams of making.

Saturday, he got to fulfill the dream.

With center Dustin Villepigue on the bench after fouling out, Bradshaw scored nine of his 16 points in overtime to help Simi Valley record an 88-83 victory over Edison in double overtime in the championship of the War on the Floor tournament at Chatsworth High.

Bradshaw had three three-pointers, connecting on a three-pointer with 2:02 to play in the second overtime to give Simi Valley (8-0) an 80-77 lead.

Simi Valley trailed by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, and did not have Villepigue, who scored 22 points before fouling out with 1:30 to play in regulation.

“When you lose [Villepigue], you lose a lot,” Simi Valley Coach Christian Aurand said. “We weren’t perfect, but we had enough in the tank.”

Bradshaw connected on a three-pointer with 8.3 seconds to play in the first overtime, giving Simi Valley a 76-74 lead.

Kevin Tatum of Edison (7-1) hit a five-foot jump shot as time expired to send the game into double overtime.

Simi Valley trailed, 48-37, midway through the third quarter, when Villepigue scored eight of his 22 points to ignite the Pioneers. Simi Valley sliced Edison’s lead to 52-48 entering the fourth quarter.

Bradshaw’s three-pointer with with 1:18 to play in regulation tied the score, 63-63. Simi Valley’s Nick Grandchamp made a layup with 29 seconds to play to send the game into overtime, 65-65.

In other War on the Floor games:

Chatsworth 86, Garfield 72--Shayne Berry scored 32 points to lead the Chancellors (6-4) in the third-place game. Scott Johnson added 18 points, 10 in the fourth quarter for Chatsworth.

Chatsworth 98, Reseda 86--Shayne Berry scored 43 points to help the Chancellors (5-4) win but was outscored by Sergei Lepiashinski of Reseda, who finished with 47 in pool play.

Lepiashinski made 18 of 18 free throws.

Reseda 70, El Camino Real 65--The Regents (5-6) finished seventh behind Lepiashinski, who had 34 points. Keenan Estrada had 20 points.

In other games:

Grant 66, Hart 49--Mike Charleston had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Lancers in pool play of the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Gino Riney had 19 points and Kevin Bernard had 10 for Grant (5-2), which played its second game without all-league guard DeWayne Anderson, who left the team.

Junior center Chris Frome had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians (5-4).

Bell-Jeff 72, Grant 50--Casey Markovic had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Guards, who won their pool in the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Tyler Kealey had 14 points and nine assists, and James Bunning had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Bell-Jeff (7-2).

Flintridge Prep 78, Schurr 69--Brian Strand hit five three-point baskets and finished with a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds for the Rebels (4-2) in a pool-play victory in the La Canada tournament.
