Motorcyclist’s Death Was Not Hit-Run
Police now say an accident late Saturday that killed an 18-year-old Ventura man was not a hit-and-run.
Trevor Wedemeyer of Ventura died when his speeding motorcycle hit the center divider of California 33 just north of the Ventura Freeway interchange as he rounded a bend and was thrown onto the road and hit by a large, white vehicle, police said. Police initially believed the driver did not stop.
But after questioning witnesses again Monday, investigators said the fast turn of events caused confusion about who stopped and what types of cars were involved. They determined that Edward Anderson of Ventura, whose vehicle struck Wedemeyer, stopped at the scene, police said.
Anderson’s car struck Wedemeyer when he moved into the left lane to avoid a witness who had stopped at the scene. Anderson apparently did not see Wedemeyer lying in the road, said Sgt. Randy Klucker, of the California Highway Patrol.
Another witness stopped at a nearby call box, Klucker said.
The accident is still under investigation, but Klucker said he does not anticipate any charges will be filed.
