Share

The Orange Police Department is looking for a truck driver who fatally struck a woman crossing the street, dragged her about 100 feet, then fled without stopping.

The woman, in her 40s, whose name was not released pending notification of her family, was struck about 6 a.m. Saturday while crossing State College Boulevard at Orangewood Avenue.

Police believe the woman was in the south crosswalk when she was hit. She was apparently dragged into the northbound lanes of traffic. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although it was foggy at the time of the accident, police believe the truck driver should have been aware of the impact. Witnesses described the vehicle as a white or yellow medium-sized enclosed moving truck, possibly with dual rear wheels.

Witnesses spotted the truck entering a nearby swap meet, but officers combed the area with no success.

Anyone with information is asked to call traffic investigator Brent Taylor at (714) 744-7460.
