* UC IRVINE (6-2) at WASHINGTON (6-4), 7, KUCI-FM (88.9)--The Anteaters, off to their best start since 1982-83, face the Huskies for the first time. Irvine is 8-21 against Pacific 10 Conference opponents and 1-1 this season, defeating California, 56-52, and losing to UCLA, 65-60. The Anteaters’ last road victory over a Pac-10 team was an 80-74 win over UCLA in the 1986 NIT. Irvine, which played six of its first seven games at home, plays at St. Mary’s in Moraga on Wednesday before opening Big West Conference play at Pacific on Jan. 6. Junior guard Jerry Green tied his career high with 29 points in Irvine’s 80-72 victory at UC Riverside Saturday. The Huskies defeated Clemson, 77-76, in overtime on Dec. 22 on a last-second shot by Michael Johnson for third place in the Puerto Rico Holiday Classic. Washington begins Pac-10 play on Jan. 4 at UCLA.
