FRAN PAVLEY
NAME: Fran Pavley
AGE: 52
HOME: Agoura Hills
PROFESSION: Assemblywoman, 41st District; retired teacher
LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Being elected to the Assembly.
GOALS FOR 2001: To review legislative options, most of which involve education reform, and to establish an academy at Cal State Northridge for high school students who are interested in teaching. In transportation, working with MTA officials and the governor’s office to acquire funding for park-and-ride lots from Ventura Boulevard to the Universal City subway station is a priority. There have already been preliminary discussions. A pilot program of van pools from the Warner Center park-and-ride lot to the Universal City station is also being considered. Environmental issues, such as looking at ways to obtain additional open space and working with local governments on watershed strategies to improve the health of Santa Monica Bay are important too. Building a community center on Ventura Boulevard, with input from Tarzana property owners and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, is another concern.
