Not Everyone Can Do What Super Mario Did

Is Mr. Teaford’s column [Dec. 26] cynical? Yes. Correct? Probably. But let’s cut to the chase. Sports is about entertainment and dollars. Neither of which I can afford. A Laker game? Hah! The NFL in L.A.? Who cares? Row Z in the upper deck for $75-$100 per? Gimme my DirecTV. The baseball season is months away and the Pirates, Brewers and many others are already out of it. How many hockey teams are left in Canada? Remember your favorite teams, the ones you grew up with? Teams in every sense of the word.

I see nothing wrong with Mario Lemieux’s motives. A love for a city, its fans and his job, along with a determination to keep Main Street USA open against all odds in today’s sports economy. Even with an interest, Lemieux has more talent, heart and soul than any owner, in any sport that I can think of.

After witnessing the incredible comeback of Mario Lemieux, I’m left with only one thought . . . whoa . . . shake me . . . get back in that easy chair, Magic, and don’t even consider it.
