Opposition to the multimillion-dollar Gate 12 renovation project is growing.

Within the past two weeks, nearly 250 more residents have signed a petition, bringing the total signatures to about 2,250, said John Lathrop, founder of the grass-roots Residents Reform Committee. Many residents support the rehabilitation effort but remain skeptical about the need for a multipurpose building, and claim that the plan for it is flawed.

Lathrop will present the petition to the Golden Rain Foundation’s board of directors during today’s open meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m. in the board room of Leisure World’s administration building, 23522 Paseo de Valencia.
