Primary Election

Share

Register by Feb. 7 to vote in the California primary on March 7!

Be sure that you are registered in the party of the candidate for whom you are voting. Otherwise your vote will be a straw vote and will not count for the convention delegates whose vote will nominate each party’s candidate. Yes, we have an open primary and you may cross party lines, but if you want your candidate nominated, register in that party. You can change back after the primary to your “home” status.

Here is a suggestion that would equalize the vote of every registered voter in the primary elections: Hold all the state primaries on the same day and have the person in each party who comes in second be the vice president candidate.

As to George Skelton’s Jan. 27 column about a better primary system for California, I don’t want a better one if better means more influential. For any state that elects the likes of Gray Davis, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, the less national influence it has the better.
