Beach Closures

People are urged to keep out of the water during the weekend at four Ventura County beaches that failed to meet minimum health standards for bacteria pollution, the county Environmental Health Division announced Thursday.

Warning signs have been posted at San Buenaventura State Beach, at Kalorama Street; McGrath State Beach, at Gonzales Road; Hobie Beach, and Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park in Oxnard. Tests conducted this week revealed excessive amounts of disease-causing bacteria in surf at the four sites. The pollution is believed caused by runoff from city streets, businesses and farms.

Swimmers, waders and surfers should stay at least 50 yards away from each side of the signs, officials advise.
