Oxnard Beats Sequoias for Title by Dialing Long-Distance, 13-10

Josh Sanchez’s three-run home run was one of three hit by Oxnard College in the sixth inning that carried the Condors past Sequoias, 13-10, in the championship game of the College of Sequoias baseball tournament Saturday at Visalia.

Ken Willis, the tournament’s most valuable player, hit the first home run of the inning, a two-run home run with one out. He had eight hits, 12 runs batted in and four doubles as Oxnard (5-2) went 3-0 in the tournament.

Josh Lake hit a solo home run.

Wes Munyon’s run-scoring grounder gave the Condors a 7-6 lead in the seventh inning and Matt Kleckner hit a two-run single in the eighth inning when Oxnard scored four runs.

San Francisco 7, Ventura 4--The Pirates loaded the bases with two out in the eighth inning, but Chris Morse lined out to end the Sequoias tournament round-robin game stopped because of a time limit.

Morse had two hits for Ventura (3-1) and Chad Anderson had three hits and an RBI.

Pepperdine 10, Missouri 8--Dane Sardinha had three hits, including a first-inning grand slam that tied him for second on the Waves’ career home-run list, in a nonconference victory at Pepperdine.

Sardinha is tied with G.J. Raymundo with 29 home runs.

Tony Garcia had three hits for Pepperdine (3-5).

Noah Lowry, a left-hander from Nordhoff High and Ventura College, did not allow a hit or a run in 1 1/3 innings to record his first save.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal State Northridge def. Ball State 15-5, 15-13, 17-16--Junior Mosones had 19 kills and eight digs to help the Matadors win in the Ball State tournament.

The Matadors (3-5) had 72 kills to 55 for Ball State, ranked No. 9 in the nation.

J.P. Jandreau added 17 kills and 12 digs, and John Baxter had 63 assists for Northridge.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Cal Lutheran 7, Occidental 2--Jen Stoltenberg, Stacey Scanlan and Laura Snapp won singles matches and and played on winning doubles teams for the Regals in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Newbury Park High.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Ventura 108, Pierce 25--Reserve Amy Rosario scored all of her 18 points in the second half for the Pirates in a Western State Conference Northern Division victory at Pierce.

Bryanna Norton scored 11 of her 21 points in the second half for the Pirates (31-0, 11-0).

Kaleen Clinton had eight points for Pierce (2-26, 0-12).

Valley 98, Citrus 58--Michelle Tompkins had 14 of her 25 points in the first half and JennieLee Greslie added 22 points for Valley (17-12, 5-5) in a WSC Southern Division victory at Citrus.

Carrie Miller had 16 points and 21 rebounds and Chante Gifford had eight points and 12 assists for Valley.

Chaffey 57, Antelope Valley 50--Talaya McDaniel had 18 points, 12 rebounds and five steals but the Marauders lost a Foothill Conference game in overtime at Antelope Valley. Antelope Valley (14-15, 8-6) made one of 18 shots after regulation.

Pepperdine 74, Gonzaga 68--Rasheeda Clark scored 16 points and reserve Anna Lembke scored 14 points for the Waves (15-8, 8-2) in a West Coast Conference victory at Gonzaga.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Lutheran 67, Occidental 66--Pastor Cuenca drove the length of the court for a layup with three seconds left to give the Kingsmen a SCIA victory at Occidental.

Cuenca hit two free throws to give Cal Lutheran (12-8, 5-5) a 65-64 edge with 1:01 to play after Occidental rallied from a 45-27 deficit.

Justin Muth had 15 points for Cal Lutheran, which won its fourth consecutive game.

Cuenca and Charlie Kundrat each added 10 points.

Valley 72, Citrus 48--Jerrohn Jordan scored 13 points and Michael Crawford had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Valley (21-8, 8-2) in a WSC Southern Division victory at Citrus.

Oxnard 70, Cuesta 61--Omar McCarter scored 23 points and Tellys Knight had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Condors (19-8, 6-2) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Oxnard.

Moorpark 73, Ventura 61--Dan Galvanoni had 19 points and six steals for the Raiders (21-7, 6-2) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Moorpark.

Antelope Valley 102, San Bernardino Valley 100--Jimmy White had 31 points for the Marauders in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.

Michael Callaway scored 16 points, and Matt Cox and Nick O’Neill had 15 each for Antelope Valley (18-13, 8-5).
