Boy Injures Leg in Fall Into 4-Foot Hole
Firefighters were called to help a Casitas Springs boy who fell into a 4-foot hole while running down the side of a mountain Wednesday.
David Bunheirao, 13, was playing with two friends in the hills near Foster Park about 3:45 p.m. when his mother yelled for him to come down.
In his haste to descend, the teenager stepped in a rain-drenched hole, said Pat Owen, a neighbor who ran to help him. “I heard him screaming so I yelled up there to find out what was going on,” Owen said.
Lindy Hamilton, the boy’s mother, said she watched her son begin to descend the mountain and “then I just didn’t see him at all.”
Owen scrambled through the wet brush to reach the boy, who had already extricated himself from the hole. Hamilton then drove her son to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Jack Hansen, who treated David at the scene, said the boy has possibly suffered a fractured leg.
