Tree-Planting, Trash Cleanup Planned

Volunteers are needed to help spruce up two areas of the east San Fernando Valley during community events Saturday.

At Casa Esperanza Blythe Street Project, a Latino community center in Panorama City, residents will remove graffiti and trash from neighboring blocks from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers should meet at the center, 14612 Blythe St.

At Hansen Dam Park in Lake View Terrace, environmental activists with TreePeople and volunteers with a Pacoima beautification group hope to plant nearly 150 live coastal oaks and sycamores.

Volunteers should follow TreePeople signs from the entrance to the park at 11850 Foothill Blvd. The planting session will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar) will help plant trees at Hansen Dam, and Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla is scheduled to be on hand at both events.
