Input Sought on Metrolink Fare Hike
Metrolink fares could go up 4% July 1, and Ventura County Transportation Commission officials want to know what the public thinks about that.
The increase, which would be the second 4% hike in two years, is meant to provide more money for service and equipment improvements, not a specific project, according to Mary Travis, commission manager of rail programs.
A round-trip ticket to Los Angeles from Simi Valley would cost $11, instead of $10.50. A round-trip from Oxnard to Los Angeles would cost $17.50, instead of $16.50. A monthly pass starting in Oxnard would increase $10 to $259.75.
“[The commission] is skeptical about the need for these fare increases,” Travis said. “We would like to hear from the public on this.”
The decision will be made by a five-member Metrolink board with representatives from each of the counties the system serves: Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino. Simi Valley Mayor Bill Davis is the Ventura County representative.
A public workshop is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. March 2 at Simi Valley City Hall’s community meeting room.
