Rain Expected Through the Weekend

Share

Wet, cool weather expected this weekend will push Ventura County closer to saturation with as much as half an inch of rain predicted for some areas, meteorologists say.

Forecasts call for clouds today with a 40% chance of rain tonight and a 70% chance of rain Sunday. Forecasters expect clouds and a slight chance of thunderstorms Monday.

“We’re getting closer,” National Weather Service meteorologist Curt Kaplan said. “If it wasn’t for the last few weeks, we would be in big trouble.”

Cooler temperatures are expected throughout Ventura County with highs in most areas in the mid-60s and lows in the mid-40s.

“We’re still in a wet pattern right now,” Kaplan said. “The jet stream is steering the storms toward us.”

The weekend showers will originate from two storm systems, one hovering about 700 miles off the San Diego coast and another in the northeast Pacific Ocean.

Swells of up to 6 feet are expected today, decreasing Sunday.

Despite periodic rain last week, Ventura County is still 50% below the rainfall average, according to Ventura County Flood Control officials.
