KOCE Honors Teachers of the Year
Public television station KOCE and Toshiba America Electronics honored Orange County’s 1999 teachers of the year Thursday in a ceremony at Golden West College in Huntington Beach.
Jack Hawkins of Sonora High School in La Habra was named “California Teacher of the Year” from among the county’s educators. The finalists were Jean Barrett of Los Flores Middle School in San Juan Capistrano, Mary Jacobs of Mable Paine Elementary School in Yorba Linda, Carol Beth Mooney of Villa Park High School and Michelle Wild of the Coast Community College District.
All five were named teachers of the year by the Orange County Department of Education last year. These winners, along with 46 others, were selected as outstanding teachers by their peers statewide in October 1999.
