Northridge Women Fall at Eastern Washington, 63-39

Cal State Northridge’s team flew to the Pacific Northwest this week, but its game went south.

The Matadors were routed by Eastern Washington, 63-39, on Thursday night in a Big Sky Conference game at Cheney, Wash.

Northridge (14-9, 8-5 in conference play) trailed, 34-14, at halftime against a team it had defeated eight consecutive times.

Reserve ReShawnda Richardson had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Matadors, whose starting lineup scored 17 points.

Tracy Ford-Phillips scored 15 points and Julie Moore had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (9-14, 5-8).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

La Verne 71, Cal Lutheran 62--Justin Muth had 11 points and five rebounds for Cal Lutheran (14-10, 7-7) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finale that featured nine lead changes at La Verne.

Kevin Gustafson had 17 points and eight rebounds for La Verne (15-10, 9-5), which clinched third place with the victory.

WOMEN’S SOFTBALL

UCLA 4-1, CS Northridge 0-0--UCLA scored an unearned run in the seventh inning of the second game to complete a nonconference sweep of the Matadors at Easton Stadium in Westwood.

Courtney Dale pitched a three-hitter, Lyndsey Klein hit two home runs and second-ranked UCLA (16-3) won the opener, 4-0.

Summer Richardson pitched a three-hitter in the second game but the Matadors (3-8-1) only managed singles by Veronica Lopez and Jamie Moore.

Dale reached base on an error by Moore to lead off the seventh. Pinch-runner Crissy Buck later scored on a single by Tairia Mims.

BASEBALL

Cal State Northridge 9, Michigan State 6--Bill Murphy had two hits, including a double, and finished with four runs batted in for the Matadors in a game at the UNLV tournament in Henderson, Nev.

Adrian Mendoza and J.T. Stotts also had two hits for Northridge (5-6), which scored four runs in the fifth inning.

Mike Frick (1-1) allowed four hits in six innings for Northridge.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale 6, Moorpark 3--Jennifer Lefler and Rubaina Khatchurian were double victors for the Vaqueros in a Western State Conference match at Glendale.

Lefler defeated Christy Tipton, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 5 singles, and teamed with Khatchurian at No. 3 doubles to defeat Tipton and Bonnie Fuller, 6-1, 6-0.

Khatchurian defeated Fuller at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
