Mark Trakh, Pepperdine’s women’s basketball coach, has a reputation for staging motivational stunts. This time he might have outdone himself.

Trakh promised his team at halftime he would jump off the high dive into the Pepperdine swimming pool if the Waves defeated St. Mary’s.

Shortly after the Waves clinched a share of the West Coast Conference title with an 83-67 victory Friday night at Firestone Fieldhouse, Trakh jumped fully clothed into the pool.

“I should have had a change of clothes, but I don’t mind it,” he said.

Not after the Waves (18-8, 11-2 in WCC play) dominated St. Mary’s (18-8, 10-3) for their second consecutive regular-season conference title. Pepperdine also will be seeded No. 1 in the conference tournament that begins Thursday at Santa Clara.

Nadja Morgan scored 17 of her career-high 24 points in the the first half. Rasheeda Clark scored 16 points and Damaris Hinojosa had 15.
