At 5-Feet, Mui Long in Grant Record Book

Leslie Mui scored 25 points, including six three-pointers, and tied the Grant High record for career points in a 57-38 victory over Birmingham in a nonleague girls’ basketball game Wednesday at Birmingham.

Mui, a 5-foot senior, tied the school record of 960 points set by Nakeisha Perkins from 1995-98.

Mui holds school career records with 278 assists and 175 three-pointers.

She scored 10 points in the second quarter against Birmingham to help give Grant (9-6) a 33-19 lead at halftime.

Octavia Askew had 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Birmingham (5-3).

It was Birmingham’s second game of the day. In an earlier game, Askew had 21 points, six steals and seven rebounds in a 49-42 first-round victory over Kennedy at the Reseda tournament.

Newbury Park 49, Agoura 47--Cassandra Harris scored 13 points and the No. 6 Panthers (11-4, 1-0) forced a turnover with 10 seconds left to preserve a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Jennifer Lacy led the Chargers with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Agoura (9-7, 0-1) trailed by 17 points in the first half but outscored Newbury Park, 14-3, in the final quarter.

Simi Valley 57, Thousand Oaks 35--Teresa Cooper score eight of her 11 points in the third quarter to help the Pioneers break away in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Elise Metcalf added 15 points for Simi Valley (11-4, 1-0), which outscored Thousand Oaks in the third quarter, 21-5.

Courtney Vasquez scored nine points for Thousand Oaks (5-10, 0-1).

Moorpark 61, Westlake 36--Kelly Geis made three three-pointers and finished with 22 points for the Musketeers (9-5, 1-0) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake (7-5, 0-1).

Rio Mesa 69, North Hollywood 62--Marie Ayala scored nine of her 19 points in overtime and the Spartans (5-7) upset No. 9 North Hollywood (9-5) in a nonleague game at Oxnard College.

North Hollywood’s Kaipresha Price made a jumper to tie the score at the end of regulation. Price and teammate Richelle Sherman each had 22 points.

Lala Gomez added 18 points for Rio Mesa.

Montclair Prep 61, Milken Community 30--Freshman Eshaya Murphy had 33 points, 23 rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocked shots for the Mounties (11-2) in a nonleague game at Milken Community.
