TONIGHT
* WASHINGTON (4-7) at UCLA (6-4), 7--Confidence shaken, beset with aches and pains, the Bruin women’s basketball team launches its Pac-10 season tonight. Center Maylana Martin’s backup, Carly Funicello, went back to wearing a protective boot after experiencing foot pain against Old Dominion last week. She has a pre-stress fracture condition. UCLA’s defensive challenge is to harness Washington guard Megan Franza, who’s averaging 21 points a game.
* WASHINGTON STATE (3-7) at USC (5-5), 7--USC finished the nonconference season with road losses at UC Santa Barbara, Notre Dame and Rutgers. The Trojans, however, are better off than the Cougars, whose best player, Tricia Lamb, quit the team Tuesday. USC’s Tiffany Elmore sprained an ankle Monday and is questionable.
