Fresno Officers Find Bazooka Rocket

Investigators over the weekend pulled an inert bazooka rocket--believed to be stolen from a police bunker--from a rural Fresno County mine shaft.

The object, as well as some bolt cutters, were submerged beneath 40 feet of murky water at the bottom of the shaft. An underwater camera had to be used to view the items.

Sheriff’s deputies say the items link five teenage suspects to a burglary at the Fresno police explosives bunker last month. Dynamite, military C-4 explosives, gunpowder, blasting caps and other devices were taken from the bunker near Auberry a few days before Christmas.

Explosives stolen from the bunker have been recovered at four other locations in Fresno and Madera counties. Five teenage boys have been charged with burglarizing the bunker.
