Matadors Have No Answers
Cal State Northridge, winners of five in a row and eight of nine coming in, became just another victim as Derek Nesland scored 21 points to lead Portland State to its 14th consecutive home victory, 76-62, Thursday night before 1,283 at their tiny on-campus gym in a Big Sky Conference game at Portland, Ore.
Portland State (9-5, 1-1) also outhustled and outmuscled the Matadors, dominating the rebounding, 48-31. The Vikings had 18 offensive rebounds, enabling them to overcome 39% shooting.
Andre Larry scored 12 points for Northridge (10-4, 2-1), but Brian Heinle, the team’s leading scorer with a 15.1 average, had only three points.
