Early Morning Crash Closes Glendale Freeway

Share

A pickup truck carrying radioactive medical imaging materials crashed on the Glendale Freeway on Friday morning, spilling its load.

Authorities closed the freeway in both directions, but authorities said radiation levels were never high enough to pose a danger.

No one was injured in the 5 a.m. crash, which witnesses said occurred when the pickup truck stalled and was struck by a tractor-trailer rig, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

About 15 firefighters along with two hazardous materials teams and paramedics responded to the accident.

The southbound lanes were opened at about 7:45 a.m., some of the northbound lanes at 9:45 a.m. and the entire freeway at 1:30 p.m.
