Storr, Rosa and Blake Get the Call

Share

Priorities changed Friday, and instead of sending goalie Jamie Storr to Long Beach for rehabilitation, the Kings brought Long Beach to Storr.

Storr, who has been out since mid-December because of a concussion, was to play for the Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League on Friday night, with an eye toward playing for the Kings on Tuesday against Buffalo.

Instead, Storr will play tonight at San Jose, along with winger Pavel Rosa and center Jason Blake, both of whom were Ice Dogs until Friday morning.

“Talking with [goalie consultant] Don Edwards, he felt Stephane [Fiset] needed a break,” Coach Andy Murray said. “The feeling among the coaches is that Jamie has looked real strong in practice and looked real strong in practice today. He’s ready to play.”

Fiset has played in the last 12 games, the first two in relief of Storr after his concussion. In those 12 games, Fiset has given up 37 goals. He was relieved by Marcel Cousineau twice and has drawn criticism for his play in the Kings’ 2-9-1 slide.

Blame also has been put on an injured-reserve list that got longer Friday when Glen Murray was added because of a chest bruise, suffered a night earlier against St. Louis.

Murray will probably be out two-three weeks, the same as center Jozef Stumpel, who has a knee injury that not been responding to treatments. Add Donald Audette (ankle sprain), as the Kings did Friday, retroactive to Jan. 7, and the injured-reserve list has an entire line.

Hence the addition of Blake and Rosa.

The question is whether Storr is ready. The Kings brought Fiset back before his bruised stick hand was completely healed.

“[Fiset] only had one or two practices,” said Storr of the sequence of events in which Fiset replaced him. “I’ve been facing shots since I put on pads and went on the ice [on Monday]. I’m ready.”

Blake also suffered a concussion in December, and he was sent to the Ice Dogs on Jan. 2. In seven games with them, he had three goals and six assists. He had three goals and five assists in 27 games with the Kings.

Rosa has been in Long Beach all season and has a team-leading 35 points--15 goals and 20 assists. He has a played in 28 NHL games, with four goals and 12 assists.
