Palffy Could Ease Pressure on Offense

Share

With their next three games at Staples Center against Buffalo, Dallas and Colorado, the Kings have at least a shot to get their act together. And it won’t hurt if they have Ziggy Palffy on the ice a little more frequently.

Palffy, who injured his back against Tampa Bay more than five weeks ago, skated in the warmups and was judged healthy enough to play against the Sharks.

The Kings could use more Palffy, the one that scored 12 goals in the first 25 games. He has only two since Dec. 3. Palffy missed four games because of back spasms and has been kept out of many practices because of his injury.

A healthy Palffy would take some of the heat off the Kings’ banged-up offense; three of their top six forwards are hurt--Glen Murray, Jozef Stumpel and Donald Audette.

Aki Berg, Steve McKenna and Vladimir Tsyplakov were scratches against the Sharks.

Is this what they mean by home cooking? Here is how the pregame media notes from the Sharks described this season’s King-Shark series: “Los Angeles stole two contests at Staples Center [and] the Sharks took a 2-1 meeting at San Jose.”

For what it’s worth, the Kings are 5-2-1 wearing their third jerseys (the predominantly purple ones with black shoulders and silver-trimmed sleeves), but won’t wear them again until Jan. 26 at Dallas.

There was a Pavel Rosa sighting. The 22-year-old winger who scored two goals in his King debut 13 months ago against the New York Rangers and only two more since, played his first game this season after being called up from Long Beach.
