Chapman Rallies for Victory

Chapman erased a five-point deficit early in the second half and went on to defeat Yeshiva, 69-66, in a men’s basketball game Monday at Chapman.

The Panthers (12-5) held a one-point lead with seconds remaining, and Mike Gartner made two free throws to give Chapman its margin of victory.

Nate Strange scored 20 points for the Panthers, Tim Werdel had 16 and Gartner 12.

In nonconference women’s gymnastics:

UCLA 195.925, CS Fullerton 193.800--The Titans set a school record for team scoring despite the loss at home.

Fullerton’s previous best score was 193.575 in 1997. Fullerton’s Katie Antolin also tied an individual record with 9.850 points on the uneven parallel bars.

The Bruins swept the floor exercise and vault competition and posted the top four all-around scores, led by Mohini Bhardwaj with 39.150.

In nonconference wrestling:

Brigham Young 30, CS Fullerton 9--Brigham Young won seven matches, including a pin from Adam Bendorf at 184 pounds, to defeat the Titans at Brea Olinda High. The Titans received points from Joey Calavitta, who won a 11-7 decision over Chris Risenmay at 149 pounds, Jason Webster, who defeated Mitch Stevens, 10-7, at 174 pounds and Babek Nejadmaghaddam, who defeated Aric Turner, 10-5, at 197 pounds.
