Amateur Skateboard Event Set in Ontario

Some of the best amateur skateboarders in the world will compete this weekend in the Vans Amateur World Championship in Ontario.

Three Orange County athletes--Austen Seaholm and John Wilinski of Anaheim and Josh Spencer of Capistrano Beach--are scheduled to participate. Seaholm and Spencer will compete in Saturday’s street event and Wilinski in Sunday’s vert event.

Admission is free for spectators. The competition runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with the finals starting between 2 and 3 p.m. The Vans park is at Ontario Mills Mall.

HORSING AROUND

The city of Huntington Beach is offering horseback riding courses at Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center.

The classes meet Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7 and the first five-week session starts Tuesday at the center off Golden West Street. The second session starts Feb. 29.

The fee is $79 and includes instruction in arena and trail riding, horse grooming, care and equipment. Boots, long pants and safety helmet are required. Details: (714) 536-5486.
