Rembert Facing Burglary Charges

Ayesha Rembert, a backup forward for UCLA’s women’s basketball team, faces up to six years in prison, prosecutors say, if convicted of a burglary charge filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Rembert, a six-foot junior transfer from Marquette by way of Riverside North High, was suspended from the team last Thursday. It was announced then she’d been suspended “for breaking a team rule.”

Rembert’s father is Fred Goss, who played for John Wooden on UCLA’s 1965 NCAA championship team.

She appeared in 10 of UCLA’s 15 games and scored just 10 points. The Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student newspaper, reported Friday that Rembert was arrested after practice Wednesday and released later that day on $30,000 bond.

She was arrested, the paper reported, on suspicion of stealing a laptop computer, leather jacket and other items from a friend, UCLA sophomore Tiffiny Walls.

The alleged theft occurred Dec. 27, Walls said. Rembert faces a Feb. 9 arraignment.
