High-tech, low-flush toilets are being offered free upon request to save water and reduce service fees that the city pays the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

The average toilet uses 3.5 to 7 gallons each flush. Low-flush toilets use 1.6 gallons.

Francie Kennedy, conservation coordinator with the city’s water department, said one low-flush toilet could save more than 5,000 gallons of water a year at four flushes a day.

About 150 new toilets, which were donated by the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County, are now available.
