IRVINE
The Orange County Transportation Authority has awarded Irvine $15.8 million for three street projects aimed at improving regional traffic flow.
A total of $60 million was distributed to nine cities and the county through the Federal Regional Surface Transportation Program, which targets key arterial roads, interchanges and certain improvement projects. Irvine received the largest sum of money.
The majority of Irvine’s funds, $10.25 million, will be used to rebuild part of Jeffrey Road to eliminate the street-level railroad crossing in the northern part of the city. An additional $622,000 will be used for the same purpose at Sand Canyon Avenue.
