The city’s Ocean Water Quality Advisory Board is urging immediate action on urban runoff problems. “We need emergency provisions to get Laguna Beach’s house in order,” said board member Michael Beanan. “There’s been a lot of talk and no action.” The board recently voted to draft two water quality proposals for City Council review. The council will study the requests at its Feb. 15 meeting. The board will recommend that the city install a temporary device that would divert runoff from Laguna Canyon Channel, which flows into Main Beach, to the Coastal Treatment Plant on Aliso Creek. The cost of the diversion equipment could reach $10,000, according to city estimates. The board will suggest that the city install the device within 30 days and have a permanent one in place within 180 days. The next Ocean Water Quality Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave.
