Fullerton’s Rho Helps U.S. Golfers Beat Scandinavians

Angela Rho of Fullerton won her singles match Friday as a team of junior golfers from the United States won the Izzo Cup Championship in Stockholm.
Rho defeated Lill Kristin Saether, 1-up, to help the U.S team defeat the Scandinavians, 26 1/2 to 17 1/2. The U.S. needed to win just six of 16 singles matches to retain the cup, but ended up winning 10.
Nico Bollini of Yorba Linda lost his singles match, 6 and 5, to Par Nillson.
The three-day match-play competition featured the top 16 junior golfers from the U.S. against the best 16 from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The format included singles, four-ball and mixed foursome matches.

The Orange County Waves can take over sole possession of first place in the A-League’s Pacific Division with a victory tonight in El Paso.
The Waves (8-7-1, 37 points), who are coming off a 3-0 victory at Cincinnati last Sunday, are tied for first place with San Diego, which is idle this week. El Paso (7-6-1) is fourth in the Pacific and trails the Waves by four points.
The Waves have the A-League’s leading scorer, Jason Boyce, who had a goal and an assist against Cincinnati. Boyce has 21 points (seven goals, seven assists).
After his shutout against Cincinnati, Wave goalkeeper Mike Littman announced his retirement.
