Fourth Offers Up a Feast of Frolics

A study has shown that at least 90% of all Americans have the day off. If freedom from tyranny and oppression isn’t reason enough to party, having a Tuesday off should be. Here’s a roundup of fireworks, festivities and fun for the Fourth of July:

ALISO VIEJO

Independence Day Celebration and Concert. 12th annual event begins at 5 p.m. with a bike parade, pony rides, petting zoo and bounce houses for children. Music by the Aliso Viejo Symphony and local jazz and swing bands, food booths. Fireworks finale, 9 p.m. Entries for the apple pie contest must be received by 6 p.m. Prize is $100. Free. ANAHEIM

“Believe . . . There’s Magic in the Stars.” Special edition of Disneyland’s nightly fireworks display starts about 9:30 p.m., immediately after the 45 Years of Magic Parade. Musical entertainment includes Disney’s Collegiate All-Star Band. Also enjoy the new fast-pass system, which assigns guests a time to ride. Firecracker 5/10K Walk/Run. Registration begins at 6 a.m.; race starts at 7:30 a.m. $20 fee includes T-shirt, breakfast and prize drawings. Yankee Doodle Dog Show. Pampered pets compete for barking rights in such categories as Best Trick, Best Dressed, closest Owner/Doggie Look Alike, Most Patriotic and others.
