Roadwork Will Cause Freeway Delays

Motorists traveling through Sylmar on the Foothill Freeway should be on alert for construction, according to Caltrans.

The $3.7-million median barrier project, which began in February, focuses on the 4.5-mile zone between Glenoaks Boulevard and Maclay Street, said Ivy Estrada, Caltrans spokeswoman. The project will continue through December.

To lessen the distraction of oncoming traffic, median barriers are being made higher, which is especially helpful at night, Estrada said.

In addition, median drainage will be improved to prevent water from puddling during rainy weather, she said.

Drivers should expect lane closures on weekdays through July 21.

“The project has run pretty smoothly in terms of not interfering with usual traffic patterns,” Estrada said.

Sun Valley’s Security Paving Co. is the contractor for the federally funded project, which was created to improve the stretch of the Foothill Freeway near the Golden State Freeway.
