Boccie, the centuries-old Italian game similar to lawn bowling, will get a home here. It’s just not clear when or where.

But once two boccie courts are finished, everyone is going to play, said Roger Franceschi, who envisions the game--traditionally played by older men--taking on a democratic, more American flavor.

Franceschi is among about a dozen local players who successfully lobbied the City Council to spend $50,000 to build two boccie courts at Crown Valley Community Park.

On Monday, however, the Parks and Recreation Commission recommended that city staff members consider alternative locations.

Pamela Lawrence, the city’s director of recreation and administrative services, and Ken Montgomery, director of public works, said they would present other possible locations for the courts at the commission’s next meeting, in August.
