L.A. Couple Injured in 2-Car Collision
Two cars collided and hurtled off the Golden State Freeway near Gorman on Saturday, plunging down a 40-foot embankment and badly injuring a Los Angeles couple, authorities said.
The 2:30 p.m. crash was triggered by a motorist in a white Daewoo who swerved to avoid an object in the road, California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane said. The driver lost control of her vehicle, which was traveling south at 75 mph, and spun into another car, knocking both over the side just north of Smokey Bear Road.
The other car, an Acura Legend carrying a family of five, landed on its roof. A 65-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife suffered major injuries and were airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
The three others in the Acura escaped serious harm. The 34-year-old driver, who is the daughter of the injured couple, and her 4-year-old girl were not hurt. Her 7-year-old daughter suffered minor cuts to her arm, Faciane said.
The Daewoo’s driver, a 22-year-old Monterey woman, was unhurt.
