Workers are less than two weeks away from finishing construction of additional turn lanes at the busy intersection of Alicia Parkway and Jeronimo Road, city officials said.
Completion is expected to be a welcome relief to drivers who have endured months of delays and lane closures because of the construction.
The project, which was approved by the City Council in December, is adding left-turn lanes on both streets and extra right-turn lanes on Jeronimo Road.
The number of left-turn lanes will be increased from one to two in each direction with the exception of northbound Jeronimo Road, which already has dual turn lanes. Another left-turn lane is being added nearby on eastbound Alicia Parkway at Via Fabricante.
Dennis Wilberg, director of public works, said the city hopes landscaping of the new medians will be completed over the weekend. The last stage will be to do some final paving of the new turn lanes.
