Robert Lee Hamic; Director of Stock Exchange

Robert Lee Hamic, a former stock exchange director, died Saturday in Orange. He had recently moved to Orange County from Newbury Park. He was 54.

He was born on March 3, 1946, in Lynwood. He grew up there and graduated from Dominguez High School where he played football.

Hamic began working at McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach and then enlisted in the Army. He served in Vietnam and was once part of the NATO Intelligence Corps in Brussels. He was decorated with medals for being a marksman, for national defense service and for good conduct.

After his military service, he began working for the Pacific Stock Exchange, retiring as a director of equity.

In about 1983, Hamic moved to Newbury Park and served as an official and coach for the Newbury Park Track Club for the next 15 years. He later moved to Orange.

Family members say that his favorite hobbies were computer science, track and field and camping.

He is survived by daughters Kimberly of Boston and Melissa of San Francisco; son Robert of Ontario; his father, Albert Hamic of Stanton; brothers Donald of Long Beach and Gary of Stanton; a sister, Vivian Robertson of Anaheim; his ex-wife, Anita Hamic-Black of Simi Valley, and a granddaughter.

Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Memorial Park in Westminster.

Arrangements are under the direction of Westminster Memorial park.
