Recycling Project Offers Movie Ticket as Reward

One man’s trash may still be his treasure now that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Pacific Bell have teamed up to give away free movie tickets to promote their fourth annual phone book recycling project.

In the program, which will last until July 31, old Pac Bell phone books may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DWP branch at 7229 Winnetka Ave. Movie tickets will be distributed to the first 50 residents on Wednesday only at this site. Tickets are limited to one per person.

Other Valley recycling sites include:

* Canoga Park Library, 7260 Owensmouth Ave.

* Chatsworth Library, 21052 Devonshire St.

* Granada Hills Library, 10640 Petit St.

* Northridge Library, 9051 Darby Ave.

* Councilwoman Laura Chick’s field office, 19040 Vanowen St.

Recycling bins are located in front of the buildings. The DWP and Pac Bell also urge residents and businesses to use their designated curbside recycling bins year round. Pacific Bell branches are not currently collecting books at their sites. Old books that are recycled will be turned into interoffice envelopes, new books and mailing envelopes.

“This program supports DWP recycling goals and serves as a convenience for residents who don’t have curbside recycling,” said spokesman Walter Zeisl. “The free movie tickets is our way of saying thank you for recycling.”
