The City Council has approved an ordinance regulating the activities of telecommunication companies on public property, including city streets and rights of way.

The city has received an increased number of requests from companies in recent years to install telephone, fiber optic and cable-TV lines on city properties, according to a city staff report.

The 58-page document prepared by the city attorney’s office establishes an application process for such projects, requires that the projects comply with city codes and that companies repave and repair the streets they cut up to the satisfaction of the city engineer.
