Lambdin Will Coach Moorpark Softball

Jennae Lambdin, former softball coach at Mt. San Antonio and Solano colleges, has been appointed coach at Moorpark College.

Lambdin also has been an assistant coach at Oregon State and Palomar and Delta colleges.

She replaces Gil Mendoza, who resigned after two seasons.

* Rich Perez, an assistant coach at Saugus High for 11 years, has been selected head coach.

He replaces Ron Hilton, who resigned.

BASKETBALL

* Keith Case, girls’ coach at Notre Dame for two seasons, has resigned to become an assistant at Cal Lutheran.

TENNIS

* Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks finished fourth in singlesand second with Derrick Bauer of Marina del Rey in doubles in the U.S. National Claycourt Championships on Sunday at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.

Josh Cohen of Weston, Fla., defeated Cook, 6-4, 6-4, in the third-place match. Eventual champion Brian Baker of Nashville beat Cook, 7-5, 6-3, in the semifinals.

Rylan Rizza of Rancho Palos Verdes and Jonathan Stokke of Chapel Hill, N.C., defeated Cook and Bauer, 6-4, 6-3, in the doubles final.

Cook earned the tournament’s sportsmanship award, the fourth time he has won the honor at a national event.

SWIMMING

* Nick Rodionoff, women’s diving coach at Pepperdine for 15 years, has been named women’s coach.

Rodionoff, a former diving coach at UCLA and former swimming and diving coach at Birmingham High, served as an assistant with the Pepperdine women’s team last season.

He replaces Tim Elson, who resigned last month.

BASEBALL

* Matt Sagoian, a pitcher from Glendale College, has committed to Concordia in Irvine.

He was 7-5 with a 3.64 earned-run average last season.

WRESTLING

* Phillip Guerrero has replaced Larry Clark as coach at Canoga Park High.

Guerrero, an assistant at San Fernando last season, will be an on-campus coach. Clark, who was a walk-on coach the last three seasons, will remain as an assistant.

CROSS-COUNTRY

* Mike Thompson has been selected coach at Saugus, replacing his sister, Pam, who resigned.

* The Harold Pump Memorial golf tournament is Aug. 17 at Malibu Country Club. The tournament will raise funds for the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Cancer Center. Cost is $300. Information: (818) 222-4506.
