A chain-reaction crash involving 10 vehicles occurred early Tuesday on California 118 near Rocky Peak Fire Road, resulting in four minor injuries and closure of the highway for an hour, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 4:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes just inside the Ventura County line, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The initial crash involved a Volkswagen sedan that rear-ended a Nissan pickup, said CHP Officer David Webb. Pickup driver Jose Roman Juarez, 37, of North Hollywood was treated for rib pain at Simi Valley Hospital.

Also taken to the hospital for back pain was Gene Lam, 49, a Reseda resident who was driving a Toyota sedan involved in the pileup, Webb said.

The driver of a Toyota sport utility vehicle and her passenger, both of Simi, suffered cuts and bruises but declined treatment. The driver was Stephanie Deitrick, 19, and her passenger was William John Vincent, 22.

Webb said a two-mile backup occurred when the westbound lanes were closed for the accident investigation. As of Tuesday night, no one had been cited.

“We were lucky,” Webb said, adding that commuter traffic is heaviest during the early hours in the eastbound lanes.
